Silver Scream is back in print!

Short stories  Comments Off on Silver Scream is back in print!
Jul 182020

The anthology Silver Scream is back in print for the first time in 32 years! Originally published by Dark Harvest in 1988, Silver Scream ranks as one of the, if not the, best horror anthologies every published. Robert McCammon’s “Night Calls the Green Falcon” was first published in Silver Scream.

Cimarron Street Books is please to bring SILVER SCREAM back into print for the first time in over 30 years!

Please take your seat for the midnight show …

They’re all here from the heyday of splatterpunk, in the first and best anthology of cinema horror—the ultimate haunted theatre of the imagination, showcasing grindhouses, 3-for-1 fleapits, porn castles, werewolf-circuit drive-ins, snuff movies, peep shows, fly-by-night video rental shacks, has-been actors, never-was ingenues, Tinseltown burnouts, film cults, immortal stars, film school dorks, media mutants, and even that bastard little brother, television …

Here’s what Cimarron Street Books publisher John Scoleri posted to Facebook about the book:

I first encountered SILVER SCREAM (in hardcover and paperback) while I was working for B. Dalton in 1988. It was my introduction to the work of David J. Schow, who as editor didn’t actually have any fiction in the book—but he wrote the most compelling afterword to an anthology that I had ever read. I was an instant fan.

The list of contributing authors included many or biggest names in the horror field at the time: Clive Barker, Robert Bloch, Edward Bryant, Ramsey CampbellRay Garton, Joe R. Lansdale, RC Matheson, Robert McCammon, John Skipp, Craig Spector, Karl Edward Wagner, Chet WilliamsonF Paul Wilson… along with great stories by several writers I was discovering for the first time: Mark Arnold, Steven Boyett, John M. Ford, Mick GarrisJay Sheckley, and Douglas E. Winter.

It has been a dream come true to help bring this book back into print after more than 30 years. It wouldn’t have happened without the perseverance of David J. Schow and the support of each and every one of the contributing writers. Whether you remember it from back in the day, or missed out on it the first time around, I can assure you SILVER SCREAM still holds up, and is deserving of its billing as the “greatest original anthology of the 1980s.”

The trade paperback book can be ordered from Amazon US, Amazon UK, and Amazon CA.

Enjoy!

New Robert McCammon story to appear in Borderlands 7

Short stories  Comments Off on New Robert McCammon story to appear in Borderlands 7
May 072020

Borderlands Press has announced the upcoming publication of Borderlands 7, the seventh book in their Borderlands anthology series.

This edition includes a brand-new short story by Robert McCammon called “The Queen of Cruelty.”

The book can be pre-ordered from the Borderlands Press website. The publication date is expected to be October 1, 2020.

From their website:

Borderlands 7 is the current volume of the continuing anthology series that has garnered awards and praise for its contributors and editors for more than twenty-five years. It is a non-themed gathering of stories which push the boundaries of genre fiction with provocative tales of the surreal and the weird.

You will find no zombies, no serial killers, no vampires, no ghosts . . . or any other familiar genre tropes or icons within these pages. Borderlands fiction is typified by its absolutely untypical nature. The editors offer herewith a wide range of fiction varying in tone, length, style, and theme. The path to the Borderlands of contemporary, imaginative fiction is traveled by writers who believe they can write a story that is so unique and memorable it demands to be a part of this current volume. The result is a grand amalgam of respected masters, solid veterans, and bold newcomers.

After reading many hundreds of submissions, the editors are proud to present an All-Star cast.

And they are: Meghan Arcuri, Michael Bailey, Gary A. Braunbeck,  Michael Scott Bricker, Cory Cone, Roby Davies, John DeChancie. Louis Dixon, Caitlín R. Kiernan, Felicia Lee, Bentley Little, Lisa Mannetti, Richard Christian Matheson, Robert McCammon, Donna J. W. Munro, Stephanie Pendley Paul, Bill Pronzini, Stephen Mark Rainey, Lucy A. Snyder, Daniel Waters, Tim Waggoner, Paul Wilson, and Leo Zaccari.

Borderlands 5 and Borderlands 6 both won the Bram Stoker Award for Anthology. With lione-up of talented writers,  Borderlands 7  is primed for a Three-Peat!

Apr 012020

Borderlands Press is now taking pre-orders for Robert McCammon’s A Little Amber Book of Wicked Shots, set for publication on May 15, 2020!

From their website:

The 10th book in Series III of our “Little Books” is a great one!

Three all new, original tales by one of the true masters of the genre. And in the book, he reveals he is not only a clever storyteller, but an equally facile, albeit amateur, mixologist.

From his Introduction to A Little Amber Book of Wicked Shots:

“About this book: there are three short stories within, each prefaced by a shot recipe of my own devising. I say that with a bit of a lemon twist to my mouth, because there are thousands upon thousands of drink recipes and I’m pretty sure one can’t come up with anything entirely original anymore, but the shots described here are totally from my mind and not from any book . . . until now, that is, and hopefully I’ve added to some bartender’s menu.

“The three stories all mention their particular shot, but the drinks don’t necessarily have anything to do with the plots. Or do they? You’ll have to read on to find out. But the names of the shots . . . well, those might have quite a lot to do with the plots (that rhymes and I haven’t even started experimenting with the liquors yet) so again, you’ll have to read on to find out.”

The book will be signed and numbered and lists for $30.

Robert McCammon reads a new story: “DST, INC.”

Readings, Robert McCammon, Short stories  Comments Off on Robert McCammon reads a new story: “DST, INC.”
Nov 262019

Saturday, November 23, 2019, Robert McCammon participated in a Noir at the Bar event with a dozen other authors at The Wild Roast Café in Hoover, AL. Each author had a few minutes to read a short story or an excerpt from one of their works. McCammon chose to write a new story for the event called “DST, INC.”

David Walters of Authors on a Podcast Talking Books recorded audio of the event, including the full reading of “DST, INC.” He posted the podcast on Anchor.fm. It can also be heard on Spotify.

I extracted Robert McCammon’s reading and adjusted the audio some to make it easier to hear. You can listen to Robert McCammon reading “DST, INC.” below.

If you’d rather read “DST, INC.” you can find it here.

You can also download the story in these formats: AZW3 (Kindle)MOBIEPUB (NOOK)PDF
