Back in April 2021, I posted that Italian publisher Gruppo Editoriale Fanucci would be publishing their translation of Robert McCammon’s Swan Song. The translation is by Francesco Vitellini, who posted on Facebook, “Presto in libreria una delle cose migliori che abbia mai tradotto!” (“Soon at the library one of the best things I’ve ever translated!”)

Fanucci recently posted on Facebook that the book will be published in January 2022, and it features cover art by British Fantasy Award-winning artist Daniele Serra. He posted his original cover art today, which you can see below.

Russian releases and news from Azbooka

Russian publisher Azbooka has released their translations of Swan Song and The Listener. They had previously released a translation of Boy’s Life in February. Swan Song was translated by Oleg Kolesnikov, while Andrey Tretyakov translated The Listener.  The beautiful covers for both can be seen below. Swan Song has previously been published in Russia three times. This is the first Russian edition of The Listener.

Per a 2018 contract, Azbooka still holds the Russian translation rights for The Border and Speaks the Nightbird.  Those will presumably be released later this year.

They have now also acquired the rights for They Thirst, Stinger, The Queen of Bedlam, and Mister Slaughter in a new, four-book deal.

The translation is by Francesco Vitellini, who recently posted on Facebook, “Presto in libreria una delle cose migliori che abbia mai tradotto!” (“Soon at the library one of the best things I’ve ever translated!”)

I do not yet know what format the book will have or exactly when it will be released. The ISBN is 9788834741832,

Polish publisher Vesper has acquired the Polish translation rights to four more Robert McCammon novels: Boy’s Life, Swan Song, Usher’s Passing, and The Listener.

In 2019, Vesper acquired the rights to Speaks the Nightbird, and just a couple of days ago, they posted the planned cover art for their edition, which you can see below. The art is by Maciej Kamuda Art.

2021-12-19 update: Zew Nocnego Ptaka will be released February 28, 2022!

I am sad to report that Rowena Morrill has died. She painted the covers for six of Robert McCammon’s paperbacks for Pocket Books in the 1980s. Last evening, Rowena suffered a series of cardiac arrests and passed away. Rowena Morrill 1944–2021.

Italian publisher Fanucci has acquired the Italian translation rights to Swan Song and Boy’s Life. Both books were previously published in Italy in 1991 and 1992. Presumably, the Fanucci editions will be new translations.

Last year, Fannuci published Il grande libro degli Zombie, a translation of Otto Penzler’s Zombies! Zombies! Zombies! anthology.

More info when it’s available, which probably won’t be until next year, at the earliest.

The Donald Maass Literary Agency has announced that Chinese publisher Xiron has acquired the Chinese rights to Robert McCammon’s Swan Song.

As we reported last month, these rights deals were also recently signed:

These will be the first translations of each book published in those countries. Presumably, these editions will be published in 2020 or 2021.
